Things I Love

I’ll admit when I first saw Muuto dots I wasn’t too impressed. Mind you they were in a box at the store and I didn’t really get the full range of possibilities at the time. But since then they’ve totally grown on me and I’m busy imagining ways I can use them in the future. They are just so versatile! These used in lieu of towel bars seems totally lovely and cute and organic. (I’m a big fan of hooks in the bathroom in general because honestly who wants to fold up towels all the time?) But if that doesn’t strike your fancy, here’s a selection of photos that illustrates the full range of the Muuto dot.

Swing arm lights are like the nerd glasses of the design world. Right? These are a pretty classic choice for places like the bedroom but they still seem somewhat unexpected when used in a kitchen or bathroom. But why we were these not always used like this? Articulated lights are an incredibly useful way to angle the light where you need it to go, unlike your average puck light. Useful and chic – though maybe not the best choice for you OCD types.

Carmen Busquet’s Parisian apartment was recently featured in Harper’s Bazaar and I have to say it’s pretty freaking amazing. I mean, what’s not to love about glossy black floors, architectural details and tons of amazing artwork? It’s a hard formula to mess up! The whole thing is perfectly befitting for fashion industry pioneer. The styling of this shoot is also killer. I love how the fashion relates to the art. I mean, that’s a ridiculous concept for real life but for a fashion/design spread it’s perfect. I only wish there were more photos to share – especially of that techno kitchen!

The brass etagere is a bit of a design blogger classic. I’m pretty sure I’ve touched on this before but I’ve noticed a few around again lately so I thought it was time to revisit. I have been keeping my eye out for one of these at the thrift store for a few years and so far no such luck. I’m sure that will change someday but in the mean time, I gather my inspiration from looking at these pretty babies.

Brass accessories have been on my radar for years now but it’s only recently that I’ve noticed a trend in huge brass features. Kitchen islands seem to be a popular choice and why not? Metal is durable and the brass makes it an automatic statement piece. Here are a few that I’ve spotted around lately.

brass dining table

[ ok so this is a brass dining table but the sculptural shape gives it as much presence as an island. And the burgundy chairs a great accent. ]
