Lots of progress this week! This transformation is well under way. This week we tackled the popcorn ceiling and the floors.
My ceilings probably aren’t the first thing you notice when looking at these photos but believe me – they are pretty darn spectacular. The popcorn is gone! You would never even know it was there. There was also one damaged section in the kitchen that looked to have suffered a leak some time ago. It was badly repaired and uneven. But now you can’t even tell! I swear – a good contractor is worth their weight in gold.
I also replaced the old carpet with dark brown laminate throughout. I felt real hardwood would be too much for what the suite is. This is an older building after all. Plus the laminate I choose looks really great – or at least it will without the layer of dust. (On a side note, my contractor told me that some new buildings in the area don’t even have laminate – they have wood-look vinyl tile! So it’s definitely not a fancy area of town.) Also now that the floor relates to the backsplash it doesn’t look nearly as terrible, does it? It still bugs me that it doesn’t go all the way up but I will get around to dealing with it later.
The closet is empty and will soon be filled with yet another Ikea Pax unit.
However, it’s not all a bump free ride. I didn’t tell my flooring contractor that I was not putting closet doors in the two hall closets and he very helpfully left gaps for the door hardware. Hmmmm. See? Even designers forget to spell out the little details. Anyway, I will be hanging curtains in lieu of doors so it won’t be noticeable in the end.
I am getting so excited to move in! This week the painters are in and I can’t wait to see the finished product. Stay tuned!
