{house of the week} The Kerrisdale Residence
Posted: March 14th, 2011 | Author: Jennifer | Filed under: Room of the Week | Tags: houses, vancouver | Comments OffI am loving this West Coast contemporary home designed by Celine Interiors. Celine Interiors is a multi-disciplinary firm in Vancouver run by Celine Pitre, which places an extra emphasis on creating beautiful spaces that are also highly functional. In this residence, I think they have definitely achieved that fine balance. This place is simple and clean, but chock-full of smart little details.
Set on Vancouver’s West side, this house takes full advantage of the gorgeous landscaping outside. The natural materials, abundance of light and open concept design make this a great house for both relaxed family living and entertaining. I love how this stairway wall’s height is echoed by the millwork behind it. Building the walls tall but keeping them just shy of full height allows the clerestory window’s light to filter through the whole space. It also enhances the feeling of openness but still allows a clear division of the floor plan.
The other side of the wall reveals a very smartly designed bar area. At first I thought this was part of the kitchen, but it’s definitely floating out separately on it’s own. (You can see the multi-media components hiding in the furthest left upper cabinet. Clever!) This is such a great idea for entertaining, to keep your guests well away from the busy kitchen area. It would also make a fantastic buffet space for casual entertaining.
The abundance of clerestory windows makes the house feel spacious and open. I also love the folding patio doors (not sure if they are Nanawall or Eclipse), which open the rear of the house up seamlessly to the patio and the yard beyond.
These gorgeous patio doors in the bedroom offer a great view of the private water feature outside. I am willing to bet this property has some pretty spectacular landscape lighting come nightfall. No window treatments necessary!

This is such a clever idea: a gorgeous bright red painting, mounted on a track which moves to reveal the TV. The expansive inlay of grey marble along with the low slung bench makes this entire wall a pretty amazing focal point. I also love the contrast of the warm caramel leather sofas to the cool stone (and I am not usually a leather sofa type of person).

It’s a little hard to tell from this angle but this looks like a Japanese-style ofuro bath tub to me. I love the concept of this and they are great way to save space, which is what they’ve done here. The frameless glass wall creates a division to the open shower area and at the same time creates the perfect little shelf for shampoos and other products. The shimmery mosaic tile is pretty amazing too. All in all, this is house I would be very happy in!
