On my next Antipodean trip (whenever that might be), Auckland is right at the top of my must-visit list. Hotel Debrett Auckland would make a lovely temporary home. Located in the CBD, the hotel has been a hip destination since the 80s. The hotels original 1920s Art Deco charm has been preserved through extensive renovations. Today, the hotel sports colorful rooms and an overall artsy theme that exudes Kiwi cool.
Raw brick walls, a real fireplace and hardwood floors are cozy additions to the stunningly modern common areas. Each room offers unique details but all are united by a vividly striped custom-made carpet. Custom furnishings with a mid-century influence offer create a playful vibe. Guest rooms offer plush beds, Tivoli radios and feature “sans” new generation ceuticals by lucy vincent marr toiletries. Separate shower stalls and extra-deep tubs along with heated granite tiled floor are luxurious touches in the bath. Book the loft suite for two levels with a unique spiral staircase.
The hotel has two restaurants to choose from (the hip Housebar and Cornerbar) and also includes continental breakfast with your stay. Should you be in the need of some down time, the free wifi and DVD/book library should keep you well occupied. Staff are friendly and knowledgable and having only 25 rooms allow fors that personalized touch.
