{ things I love } The Ikea Catalogue 2012

Posted: August 23rd, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Store Round Up, Things I Love | Tags: , , , , | Comments Off

It’s that time of year again: the arrival of the new Ikea catalogue! Leafing through the new one is truly one of my favourite things to do every year and last weekend I finally managed to get my hands on a copy (thanks Mom!). As always, there are piles of great things in there but I managed to weed the new stuff down to my ten favourites. (I also used the American links this time around – apologies to my fellow Canucks!)

1 – Pretty Lyckoax duvet cover – $39.99
2 – Stack your small things in these Vammen boxes – $3.99 (set of 7)
3 – The cute and scratch resistant acrylic Elmer chair – $79.99
4 – Floral Soder wall lamp – $29.99
5 – Group in a cluster on your wall: Kvill frame – $4.99
6 – Future design blogger classic: Isala laptop table – $199
7 – Fun BÄRBAR bird tray – $4.99
8 – Shimmery Ninni Rund curtains – $49.99
9 - The mid-century style Arvika swivel chair – $499
10 – Practical light grey Nyvoll nightstand – $129

I am the first to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with Ikea. There really is so much to love but there are some things that drive me truly crazy: slow moving large groups (I am very in-and-out and I know all the shortcuts), the forever crazy parking lots, the finicky kitchen planning software, the staff (who wouldn’t honour an incorrectly rung through sales price after the sale period ended for me. What??). But I still harbour more affection for the big blue box than resentment and this catalogue has re-ignited my love affair. I just might have to take a spin out there to check out the new stuff in person (whilst slurping on a frozen yogurt cone too, of course).

{ store round up } Crate and Barrel Fall 2011

Posted: August 16th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Store Round Up | Tags: , , , | Comments Off

I haven’t done one of these Store Round Ups in aaaaages, but as I was perusing the new stuff at Crate and Barrel for fall I thought it was high time. There’s loads of inspiring new stuff out there and some really cute prints and patterns for fall. And even better than all that is the news that Crate and Barrel will be arriving here in Vancouver at Oakridge Mall. Finally! (When it arrives is another question – most likely next spring – but I’ll be crossing my fingers for Christmas-time). I’m looking forward to shopping without any border line-ups involved. But, in the mean time, here are the things topping my shopping list:

1Zaine platter charger – $29.95. Love this pattern. What a great way to update your table.

2Olin rug – $19.99-$299. Who can resist a good stripe? Not me.

3Elan bar cabinet – $1299. Sleek and functional, plus the bleached oak colour is on trend.

4Petra pendant lamp – $449. I love the scale of this funky fixture.

5MP3 alarm clock docking station – $59.95. The perfect touch of levity for your bedside.

6Raj candleholder – $3.95. So pretty – these would look great in a big cluster on a large mirrored tray.

7Style station – $29.95.
This functional piece can hang on your towel rack, sit on the countertop or tuck away when not in use. Brilliant!

8Pablo room divider – $1199. Functional storage that looks great on both sides.

9Flamingo berry stool – $16.95. Cute for a kids room or for outside.

10Tasana 18″ x 12″ pillow – $26.95. A pretty pattern in great autumnal colours.

{store round up} CB2

Posted: November 17th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Store Round Up | Tags: , | Comments Off

It’s true! Canada can now shop online at CB2! Believe me, there is nothing so frustrating as looking at a website and getting excited about something and then realizing there is no possible way you can actually buy anything. (This used to happen here a lot but it’s getting better and better!) CB2 has great modern style at great prices which makes this extra exciting for me.

1 – Hive storage unit – $99.95. With it’s very striking and unusual shape, these look great in multiples.

2 – Firefly pendant – $229. I love the scale of this industrial looking pendant.

3 – Whirly hanging candleholder – $4.95. These are great especially when hung in a pendant-like bunch, as shown here.

4 – Marimekko siirtolapuutarha wall hanging 58″x 58″ – $99.95. You know my love for all things Marimekko. This wall hanging is a great size for it’s price point and will add a splash of colour wherever you hang it.

5 – Knitted poufs – in grey or red – $99.95. I don’t think you could even knit one yourself for this much money!

PS – All Canadian prices include duty. Hurrah!

10 New Organizing Ideas

Posted: October 26th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: DIY, Store Round Up | Tags: , | Comments Off

It seems there are always new and cool ways to organize your home. I am consistently amazed at the new ideas out there that both large companies and DIYers come up with. I have also been on a major purging binge* in the last few days so I have storage solutions on my mind. So I have rounded up 10 great ideas to hopefully provide some
true organizational inspiration:

1 – Ingenious bike storage shelf at Freshome.

2 – Inspired office organization at Poppytalk. Great use of vertical space!

3 – Crafty necklace storage at High Heeled Foot in the Door.

4 – Pipe & ply shelving at Manhattan Nest.

5 – Missing sock bucket at Kim Vallee. Um I currently have 4 partnerless socks. You?

6 – Compost freezer bin at BLTD. In the freezer = no stench! Win.

7 – Entry butler available at Velocity Art & Design. I need this!

8 – Cute knife rack DIY at The Farm Chicks.

9 – Backup TP roll storage Curbly. This one is a little cutesy for me but imagine it in industrial felt…

10 – Yet more cute jewelry storage at High Heeled Foot in the Door. So Martha! Love.

It just goes to prove that whatever your storage issues are, there’s something out there for you that doesn’t come from the Container Store.

(*purging binge? Is that even possible??)

Store Round Up: Ikea 2011 Catalogue

Posted: August 30th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Store Round Up | Comments Off

One of my favorite times of the year is sitting down with the newest Ikea catalogue and checking out all the new items. I actually didn’t get a copy delivered to my building this year so ended up swiping a copy from my parents house. Shhhhh! Anyway, today I am going to share my top ten picks with you:

1 – I really like the curved lines of these Norrora curvy bathroom dishes. Sculptural *and* functional.

2 – Store your fruit in the Tradig bowl. This is so fun and looks much higher end than it actually is.

3 – I love how they’ve shown the Kivik chaise lounge in the catalogue: 3 stacked together to create a mondo-couch. It’s memory foam too – can you imagine how comfy this must be?

4 – Ikea showed a ton of new products to house your flat screen TV. This Besta TV unit in white is a great, sleek example.

5 – The Grundtal hanger is a simple but striking way to store bathroom ephemera.

6 – I love the simple graphic look of the Mandal headboard. This one sends my mind into overdrive: could it be painted? Used not as a headboard? Hmmmmmm.

7 – I am eternally obsessed with black and white, so I love the tribal reversible Vilmie Figur pillow cover.

8 – I am not even sure if this one is new but I have developed a serious crush on the Jorun rug in the last few weeks. Dark grey chevron print! Yum.

9 – Ikea always has fantastic reasonably priced fabrics, but in particular I am loving this Annamoa fabric. With pink squirrels, deer and foxes it would be amazing in a little girl’s room.

10 – Last but not least, I pick Komplement interior fittings for the Pax systems in ….white! For the longest time they were only available in birch finish, which drove a detail nut like me up the wall (ex. white exterior with birch fittings! oh vey!) They are also now available in black brown, so all your insides can match your exterior. It’s about time Ikea!
