{what I ate} Surprise Holiday Edition: Christmas Cookies

Posted: December 21st, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: fooooood, Holidays, What I Ate | Tags: , , , | 2 Comments »

Yeah. I know it’s not Friday.

But Friday will be Christmas Eve and that it much too late.

I finally got around to doing some holiday baking this year. In typical fashion, I banged out five types of cookies in one afternoon (and there is still one type in the freezer that I have yet to bake).

Holiday baking makes me so happy. I can’t wait to share these with everyone.

The Recipes:

(I have previously linked to all of these.)

Peppermint chocolate bark by Baked by Rachel

White chocolate peppermint marshmallow fudge from Crepes of Wrath

Angeletti from Real Simple

Earl Grey cookies from Real Simple

Garbage Shortbread cookies from House and Home (I used Smarties, Caramilk and Skor – so good)

In other food news, I also went to a Christmas party over the weekend and went home with this baby:

A mini donut maker! Now between Tanie and I we will have enough mini-donuts to feed a small country.

I love reading. It’s my nightly ritual to get cozy in bed with a good book and read a chapter or two. I always have a pile of books to read, as well as a list of books to buy. If anyone is ever stumped on getting me a present ever, they need look no farther than the closest bookstore. Books are a great gift for everyone basically so here are five great ones that might be perfect for someone on your list:

1 – Room – by Emma Donohogue. Although it’s uncomfortable and tense, this book is one of the best I’ve read in recent years. Get out your tissues. $13.72

2 – Furious Love by Sam Kashner spills the volatile beans on one of the most fascinating celebrity couples ever. $18.47

3 – Life by Keith Richards with James Fox. I know the market seems saturated with them but this is a rocker tell all that you actually want to read. $16.18

4 – A Homemade Life by Molly Wizenberg of Orangette. An inspiring memoir and cookbook in one. $16.50

5 – Phaidon’s Decade is full of amazing photography and historical moments. It would make an excellent addition to anyone’s coffee table book collection. $26.37

{weekend links} December 3rd Edition

Posted: December 4th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: DIY, Holidays, Weekend Links | Tags: , , , | Comments Off

I’ve been so busy this week! I have yet to figure out how to equally balance projects, blogging and twitter (and the rest of life). It seems I can only concentrate a few things in any given week. If I put more effort into any one area, something else falls off the other end. So balance – how do you do it ladies?

Anyways, it’s time for the Weekend Links. Enjoy & I hope you have a great one!
