Hello there, come on in!

My name is Jennifer Stevens and I am a Vancouver B.C.-based interior designer. I have had a passion for design since I was a child. While I attended SFU to get my degree in psychology, I was always spending my free time reading shelter magazines and watching HGTV obsessively. Six years ago I made the break from my customer service background and began going to school at night to train as a designer. I have been working in the industry for four years, most recently as a Lead Designer at a design/build company. I founded Jennifer Stevens Interior Design in 2010.

I have a love for design that is clean, comfortable and organic. I, like many others on the rainy West Coast, have a love for the outdoors and that is shown in my work. I am influenced by the graphic work of Kelly Wearstler, the sensuous Asian-modern of Kelly Hoppen, and the inspired traditional of Sarah Richardson. I am also equally influenced these days by the legions of talented bloggers and regular people that have a knack at creating amazing spaces. I specialize in designing for residential renovations and I especially love the challenge of kitchens and bathrooms.

But interior design isn’t my only passion – far from it! I find inspiration everywhere and I love to write about it. My favorite topics include travel, fashion, thrift store finds, DIY projects and vegetarian food.

About That Name

In case you are wondering, the name of this blog – Callooh Callay – comes from one of my most beloved books – Alice in Wonderland. It is part of the most delightful nonsensical poem ever written – Jabberwocky:

And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!’
He chortled in his joy.
